“Hmm… I’m going to change the subject for a bit. “I see you’re confused…” The man looked around the room for a few seconds, lost in thought. The origami figure turned his head and stared at his creator with a bewildered expression on his face. I should probably give you an actual name.” “I’m not sure I want to keep referring to you as ‘child’. The origami figure smiled happily and hopped off the workbench onto the desk to inspect the crane. “Bravo! Magnificent! I’ve never seen anyone master folding an origami crane quite so fast before!” A few moments later, a small object fell onto the desk beside them: an origami crane. He felt pride and satisfaction in watching what was basically his child take interest in the same things he liked to do. Rather than being angry or disappointed, he merely smiled. His devotion to creating origami art was very strong… perhaps some of his knowledge and passion was transferred over to his origami experiment. The paper began to levitate, shocking its owner. Fold to your heart’s content!”Ĭlosing its eyes, the origami figure held out its stubby arms out and concentrated on the paper in front of it. “Origami is an art… One sheet of origami paper can become virtually anything. “Well, I suppose you’ll never know until you try.” He pulled out a toolbox filled with blank white sheets of origami paper. The origami figure simply just shrugged in front of him. Since you have been brought to life with the Fold of Life, perhaps you have the ability and the knowledge to fold origami yourself?” “So, it’s true… the Fold of Life prophecy can bring origami and paper to life.” The man looked reassuringly at the origami figure. However, the origami creation hadn’t quite learned to speak at the moment, so it just tried to give its creator a quick nod as a response. The product of the man’s hard work was no ordinary creation… it was a different kind of being altogether: Origami. “Ah, you’re awake! Wonderful! How do you feel?” The man standing in front of it noticed it instantly and smiled. The object on the workbench suddenly stood up, as if it were an actual human being. For days, he had been trying to perfect his project. A short figure stood staring happily at his creation he had made on the workbench in front of him. The Vellumentals appear to have a connection with the Shangri-Spa, as the Sea Tower, the entrance to the Shangri-Spa, worship their images.A triumphant voice rang through the halls of a small building. When King Olly becomes a Vellumental, alongside eyes, a three-pointed crown, and a large flap of hair like Olly's, the majority of their skin turns purple. When Olivia transforms into a Vellumental, it gains eyes and a two-pointed crown on its head. In their original origami forms, the Vellumentals have no eyes. King Olly also possesses the ability to turn into each of the Vellumentals in the first stage of his boss fight. However, the Magic Circle disappears from the enemy if Mario fails to solve the ring puzzle. During certain Wave Battles, an enemy may hold a random Vellumental Magic Circle, which if defeated will allow Olivia to transform into that Vellumental and attack all enemies with 50 damage in the next turn, or the next wave if all enemies were defeated. This allows Olivia to transform into one via a corresponding Magic Circle, allowing Mario to access its elemental powers. When they are defeated, they unveil a Bibliofold that contains instructions on how to fold into them. Certain in-game text suggests that they were not always made of origami. Their shared name is a portmanteau on "elemental", and " vellum", a type of parchment specifically made of calfskin (alluding to the ancient nature of the Vellumentals). The Vellumentals are a group of elemental, deity-like creatures that reside in their own Vellumental shrines and temples, acting as bosses in Paper Mario: The Origami King.
